Starting in 2009, Odebrecht began to consolidate its operations in the segments of waste and industrial effluent treatment, sanitation (water and sewage) and urban solid waste under the brand Foz do Brasil. These assets originally belonged to Construtora Norberto Odebrecht and in 2008, they were separated into Odebrecht Engenharia Ambiental.

Foz do Brasil has the goal of investing in and operating environmental projects and providing services focused on three segments:

  • Water and Sewage – partnerships and public water and sewage concessions;
  • Industrial Operations – outsourcing of Utility Centers;
  • Waste – diagnosis and remediation of contaminated areas, monitoring of surface and ground waters and the energy valuation of urban solid waste.

The company operates, invests and participate as a partner in projects designed to guarantee improvements in the quality of life of over 8 million people in the country and the development of companies with sustainability-based actions. It is controlled by the Odebrecht Organization (73.47%) with stake held by the government fund FI FGTS (26.53%).

Foz do Brasil is a partner of several different state sanitation companies for public and private projects:

  • SABESP (São Paulo State Basic Sanitation) at Aquapolo, Latin America’s largest reuse water project, and also at the Mairinque concession (SP);
  • Rio de Janeiro City Government: together with the company Águas do Brasil, Foz is responsible for the investment in and operation of sanitary sewage in the Western region of Rio de Janeiro;
  • COPASA (Minas Gerais Sanitation Company) at the Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil Utilities Center, located in Jeceaba-MG;
  • EMBASA (Bahia Water and Sewage Company) under the Jaguaribe Oceanic Outfall System;
  • CESAN (Espírito Santo Sanitation Company) in the Operation and Maintenance of the Sewage Treatment Plants and networks in the Metropolitan Region of Vitória; and
  • SANASA (Water Supply and Sanitation Company) in the leasing of the Capivari I STP.

Foz do Brasil is part of the private block that controls SANEATINS (Tocantins Sanitation Company), the company in which the Tocantins government holds interest and which operates in 125 municipalities of the state and five in Pará.

Foz do Brasil has also formed partnerships with the São Paulo municipalities of Rio Claro, Limeira, Mauá, Mairinque, Santa Gertrudes and Porto Ferreira. In Espírito Santo, it operates in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim and the Greater Vitória area, both in the metropolitan region of Vitória; in the state of Rio de Janeiro, it operates in Rio das Ostras and in the Rio de Janeiro capital; in Santa Catarina, it is a partner of the municipality of Blumenau and finally, in Rio Grande do Sul, Foz do Brasil serves the municipality of Uruguaiana.

In the industrial area, Foz do Brasil provides services to major industries from the metallurgy, oil, paper and pulp, mining, steelmaking, chemical and petrochemical sectors, with companies such as Petrobras, Braskem, ThyssenKrupp Companhia do Atlântico, Transpetro, Dow, Dupont, Rhodia, BattreBahia, Shell and Klabin as its main clients.

The Organization’s operations in the sector began back in 1994, when Construtora Norberto Odebrecht assumed the first country’s first private sanitation concession in the city of Limeira (SP). The transaction was successfully completed in association with the French company Lyonnaise des Eaux. From that point forward, the Organization undertook other projects in the area.
