A strategic space for Odebrecht’s operations, Latin America was the first market to receive the projects of the Organization during its process of internationalization process. So much so, that in 2012, Odebrecht celebrated 33 years in Peru.

Odebrecht América Latina is responsible for leading engineering and construction projects, primarily in the infrastructure segment, and for training professionals committed to the art of serving. It currently has more than 50 contracts that employ 32,000 people. The company currently operates in the following countries:

The following projects are some of the most important undertaken by the Organization:

  • The winning of the contract to build the first Panama City Subway Line (Line 1) and the conclusion of the second phase of the Coastal Belt and Dos Mares Hydroelectric Power Plant Project.
  • Start of the Sarmiento Burial Project to transform an urban railroad into an underground train connecting Buenos Aires to the site of Moreno in Argentina.
  • In the Dominican Republic, the acquisition of 50% of the Coral Freeway concessionaire capital and consequent control of the company; the approval of the Palomino Hydroelectric Power Plant as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project in compliance with the provisions established in the Kyoto Protocol and UN Convention; and the conclusion of the Samaná Aqueduct (first and second stages).
  • In Colombia, the Company won the contract for the second phase of construction of the Rota do Sol Highway, which will connect Bogota to the Caribbean coast, extending 528 kilometers and to be operated by Odebrecht for 15 years.
  • In Cuba, it began the construction work to expand Mariel Port, the country’s largest contracted project.
  • In Mexico, it completed the Michoacán Hydro-Agricultural Project, and in 2011, it began the earth leveling work to build the Braskem EXXI Industrial Plant.
  • In Peru, it also won the concessions for the Chaglla, Cumba, Chadim and Tambo 40 Hydroelectric Power Plants and to complete the Melchorita, Callao and Bayovar Ports and Sisa-Cuñunbuque Highway projects.
  • And in Ecuador, it completed the complementary construction work for the rehabilitation of the San Francisco Hydroelectric Power Center (CHE), in addition to earning the right to build the Manduriacu Hydroelectric Power Plant Project.

However, Odebrecht has participated in projects throughout the region. Among those it has completed are Maldonado in Uruguay, and the stretch of the Bioceanic Corridor in Bolivia.
